Gemotions

The weight of the day was crushing. He’d worked a double shift, then rushed to the party. He leaned against a wall, catching his breath. His limbs felt heavy, and his mind was clouded.

He watched the dancing, the laughter, the celebration. He felt removed, as if watching a movie. He couldn’t seem to connect with the joy, to share in the excitement.

The speech was next on the agenda. He took a deep breath, trying to summon the energy, the words. He closed his eyes, and when he opened them, the world was still there, unchanged and demanding.
